“The Life & Work of Mohamed Khan” where Mr Ahmed Shawky , the film critic will delve through the highlights of the visionary Director Mohamed Khan’s life and work. The event is moderated by Dr Khalid Ali and Mr Anwar Kawadri.

 

Mohamed Khan (1942-2016) was a pioneer in the new wave of socially-aware Egyptian cinema in the 80’s with films like ‘Chams’s Blow’ (1978) and ‘Bird of the Road’ (1981). Films like such as ‘Wife of an Important Person’ (1987) and ‘Dreams of Hind and Camilia’ (1988) reached out to a global audience winning major awards in international film festivals. He also tried literary adaptations; ‘Desire (1980) was based on F Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘The Great Gatsby’, and ‘Missing Person’ (1984) was based on H E Bates book ‘The Darling Buds of May’. A champion of women’s cinema, Khan directed masterpieces like ‘A Dinner Date’ (1982) and ‘Factory Girl’ (2014).

Khan’s active career as a director, script writer and actor spanned 53 years.
