The British Egyptian Society Weekend Overseas Tours

All members are invited to join our overseas tours which are very social and informative.

Places are chosen that have close ties to Egypt.

One of the Societies founder members was the Keeper of the Ancient Egypt Department of the British Museum, and his successors have always been on our Board. They connect us with the European museums and guides to help with our tours.

Paris            We have had several successful trips to this beautiful city. Travelling on Eurostar together we had the chance to get to know everyone and members from Belgium, France and Switzerland joined us at the hotel.

Tours to Paris have included an excellent guided tour by Cathie Bryan. This included a tour of the Pere Lachaise Cemetery full of Spinx’s, Obelisks, Hieroglyphics and the grave of Jean-Francois Champollion.

An evening at the theatre to see “How to be a Parisian in 60 minutes

A trip to Monet’s garden. A day at the new Arabic Galleries at the Louvre and Egypt’s underwater treasures. The Gustave Moreau Museum. A walking tour of Montmartre and Crusader churches. Saw the Napoléon in Egypt at the Institute du Monde Arab with a guided tour by the Curator. A tour of the Musee D’Orsay with our usual excellent guide Noha Escarton. The Tutankhamun Exhibition.

Turin            It has one of the finest Egyptian museums outside Egypt with an entire building devoted to Egypt.  We visited also the National Film Museum in the spectacular Mole Antonelliana and also the Museum of the Holy Shroud. Lunch in the open air Piazza Victor Emmanuele with musicians playing.

Florence    Our first meal together was in a superb restaurant overlooking the Ponte Vecchio and a stunning view across the river. We had an excellent guide, Nicola Bernini who took us to the Uffizi, Galleria del’Accademia and the Egyptian Museum. An evening visit to the countryside to the Panzanello winery was a highlight.

Berlin                    Included escorted visits around the Pergamon Museum, the Neues Museum and the Bundestag, On our last day we went on a river cruise around Berlin in bright sunshine.

A wonderful mixture of culture and friendship, young and old!
