SUMMARY:The Second BES/LMEI Debating Competition
DESCRIPTION:The Second BES/LMEI Debating Competition\nFREE EVENT - REGISTER BELOW\nWe are pleased to advise you that the 4 excellent universities taking part in our 2nd Annual debating competition are: \nImperial College London; University of Sheffield; Brunel University London; and University of Glasgow\nThe debates\, on Thursday\, 11th October 2018\, will take place in the Pall Mall Rooms of the Army & Navy Club\, 36 Pall Mall\, St. James’s\, London SW1Y at 6.30pm for a 7pm prompt start. If this is not a thought provoking evening then somehow we have failed. The debates will be followed by a Question and Answer session and then a Drinks and Snacks Reception. \nThe British Egyptian Society is keen for this evening to attract a wide audience of British Egyptian Society members\, friends of the Society and of the guests and\, we hope\, students. Do please spread the word but\, most of all\, do come yourselves. The London Middle East Institute at SOAS\, University of London is our co-promotor. \nThe procedure is this; the Chairman will welcome everyone and introduce the speakers. The motion is:- \nThis house believes that entrepreneurship and startup companies are the future for Egypt and the Middle East\nThere will be one presentation from each University\, of 8 to 10 minutes\, followed by a Q and A\, Chaired by our Trustee Mr. Peter Mackenzie Smith whose career included seven years in Cairo working for the British Council. \nTwo of the colleges will propose the motion and the other two oppose. The 4 speakers will each receive an iPad 4 mini and the winning team and teacher will be offered a holiday in Luxor at a time convenient to them. Every member of the team will receive a certificate. \nDo remember that 6th Formers influenced the outcome of the last election. Youth will in no way diminish the quality of the debates and I promise a lively discussion. All of this is being sponsored by our Patron and Founder member\, Dr. Ahmed El Mokadem. He is particularly keen on the trip to Egypt for the winning team to show how safe and enjoyable a visit to Egypt can be. \n\n \nPowered by Eventbrite
